17. Intricate Art
The Donghwasa Temple in Daegu is famous for its beautiful facade. Located 22 km northeast of the city, it’s nestled on the south side of Palgongsan Mountain. The name means “even during the winter season, the paulownia tree still blooms.” Like something out of a fairy tale, it was originally built in 493 AD.
Since then, it’s been rebuilt twice. Once in 830 AD, and again in 1732. Inside, you’ll find enormous statues. The Buddha is over 17 meters tall and stands alongside both a stone lion and a lotus flower. If you visit, be sure to hike the stairs for a fantastic view and historical tour of the history behind this beautiful temple.
