21. Choices Are Made
This not-so-subtle reminder that escalators are lazy is par for the course in South Korea. Thankfully, even though the escalator is the popular choice, South Korea has a relatively low obesity rate. Their BMI cutoff is five points lower than America’s, as well. In South Korea, only 4% of the adult population is obese.
Their obesity qualification is a BMI of 25 or higher. In America, obesity plagues 40% of adults, and that’s at a BMI of 30 or higher. Some of it is genetics, but a good portion of the phenomenon is the food they eat and their lifestyle. Kimchi is a prevalent side dish, served with nearly every meal.
