40. There’s No Age Limit for Education
South Korea has had a steady decline in birth rates. In the 1960s, the rate was six children per childbearing age woman, but today, it’s less than one. This breaks the record held by Taiwan for the last few years. The result is thousands of schools with teachers and very few children.
Instead of closing school doors, the country started a program that allows older men and women to learn alongside the kids. One such school had zero first graders enrolling for the year, so illiterate grandmothers were granted access so they could learn to read and write. It’s an excellent solution! Knowledge is power.
