46. Amazing History
Gyeongbokgung Palace, or Palace of the Prince, is located in Seoul, South Korea. It was built as the palace for the Joseon Dynasty in 1395. It’s one of five palaces built during that reign and is the largest. Sadly, the original structure was burned down in the 1500s, but a complete restoration of the 7,000+ rooms was finished in the 19th century.
It was damaged again in the 20th century, and efforts are back underway to bring it back to its former glory. It’s open daily to tourists, from 9 am – 6 pm, although it’s closed on Tuesdays. If you get the chance to go, please do. It’s simply breathtaking and packed full of the history of centuries.
