The Gambling Granny
We think of our grandmas as the sweet little old ladies who spoil us rotten and make sure we never go hungry. They say “yes” when mom says “no,” and they always give us somewhere warm to run when the world has chewed us up and spit us out. We don’t think of them as bartending baddies.
Learning from your parents that grandma had a gambling problem will send anyone’s eyebrows to the sky, but learning that she used her business as a place to get others hooked on emptying their wallets while fending off cops and robbers is enough to have us reaching for our blood pressure meds.
