The Road Less Traveled
People like being told what to do when it removes a burden, but not when it creates a hassle like this poorly designed sidewalk leading people to bike and walk along unnecessary curves that seemingly serve no purpose other than to irritate pedestrians who know this could have been built better.
“The road less traveled” is a metaphor for going your own way, but it looks like more than one person had enough of the ridiculous sidewalk and forged a new, sensible path that may be used more than the concrete people were expected to stay on. You know your design is bad if people would rather wreck the lawn and walk through mud than use your sidewalk.
