The Maine Hermit
Have you heard of the Maine hermit at campfires and school trips? Because we sure did. The story goes that there is a man who lives in the Maine woods, who sneaks up to campsites at nights to steal food, supplies and whatever stands in his way. As it turns out, this urban legend is completely real! (but not as scary as you’d might expect).

For 27 years, Christopher Knight lived alone in the deep woods of Maine. When he was finally caught by a camper in 2013, Knight confessed that he was the one responsible for over forty camp robberies a year. Although he did not kidnap and eat the campers, he did eat their hot dogs, beans, and take the occasional electric device and money.
