Flipping the script
Ask a Native New Yorker is a column in which New York native Rob Dobkin offers advice. A woman wrote to him about her mirrored tale, which he included in one of his pieces. She was a teacher who had been commuting home after a long day at work.
A mother with a 10-year-old son requested that she give up her seat for him. She was irritated, but complied, wondering whether she should have done so in the first place. Dobkin stated that given how much effort it must have taken for the mum to ask, she should’ve gotten up unless there was a physical inability to do so.
