A Christmas Tale (2008)
An extended French family, still seething from years of resentment, gets together for the holiday, and as the wine starts flowing, the knives come out. Director Arnaud Desplechin is more interested in open wounds than he is in sentimental pigs in blankets. To put it another way, this is a fantastic movie to enjoy with your family now that everyone is together in a better place.
Favorite Quote: “It’s not the same. You really love me. For 10 years, you’ve had no life. You’re pathetic in your studio. You don’t talk. You’re sad. You spend Sundays doing the dishes, stealing glances, avoiding my kids. You’re a failure, clinging to the Vuillards. You never got over me.” Some things are best left unsaid, you know?
