#28 Requesting an All-Female Birthing Staff
Meghan and Harry became parents for the first time with the birth of Archie, and they welcomed Lilibet Diana in June of 2021. Lili, the first of the Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born outside of the United Kingdom, was born at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, which was established by women in 1888. Both the on-call physician, Gowri Motha, and the delivering physician, Melissa Drake, were female. Motha also helped with Archie’s birth.
Despite making a strong feminist statement, the media pounced on her. Meghan reportedly “snubbed” the Queen’s medical staff because she refused to have “men in suits” perform the delivery.
