Getting Wild on the Jungle Cruise
If you’ve been to a Disney park, it’s almost guaranteed you’ve ridden the Jungle Cruise ride. It’s one of the classic Disney rides that doesn’t change, but it’s still thrilling every time. When the Jungle Cruise was first developed, it was planned to be very different from what it is today. Walt Disney originally envisioned live animals as part of the ride.
Obviously, there are a lot of problems with having live animals as part of a busy theme park ride with so many kids around, one of them being the animals’ nocturnal sleep schedules. Although Walt’s full-blown idea for live animals never panned out, they did have live alligators as part of the ride at one point. This was pretty dangerous, even though they had trainers nearby to calm them down. The alligators were removed after an unfortunate deadly accident.
