Cher then
American singer Cher was born in 1946 under the name Cherilyn Sarkisian. Cher has always dreamed of becoming a star, and at sixteen, she dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue this dream. She became close friends with singer-songwriter Sonny Bono, and the rest is history – the two eventually became the popular rock duo Sonny & Cher.
Sonny & Cher became a musical hit, and their song “I Got You, Babe” reached the top charts in the U.S. and Europe, and number on on the famous Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band is what skyrocketed Cher’s career, but she was also famous on her own merit – she was known for her iconic look and inspiring style.
