Sally Field then
When she embarked on her acting career in the mid-sixties, little did Sally Field know she would one day become a big star. She started out as a television actress in 1965 – her first role was a young and reckless surfer girl in the sitcom Gidget (which wasn’t a great success), and following that role, Field was typecast in the industry as a TV actress.
This went on for several years, until Field decided it was time to leave the girl-next-door image behind, and enrolled at the famous Actors Studio under the guidance of actor Lee Strasberg. 1977 was the year when things finally turned around, and Filed co-starred with a line of stars in Smokey and the Bandit, one of the year’s highest-grossing films.
