During the sixties and seventies, American singer Diana Ross was at the forefront of the most popular Motown group around – The Supremes. Arguably the commercially successful vocal group of the period; their revolutionary act, their remarkable voices and their confidence was an inspiration for many artists that followed. Diana Ross was an inspiration to artists including Michael Jackson, Madonna and later Beyoncé.
By the time she left the group in the mid-seventies, Ross had a name that followed her – tanks to the success of her band, her transition to a solo career was rather smooth. Diana Ross was known during that time for her remarkable vocal skills as well as her glamorous style, which was considered revolutionary.
