Brigitte Bardot today
Entering the sixties, Bardot already had a name in the entertainment industry as a pop-culture icon. During the sixties, she’s extended her career to singing, appeared in a line of blockbusters and gained international fame. Although she had a promising career ahead of her, Brigitte Bardot decided to leave the spotlight in the mid-seventies; her final performance was the lead role in the film Don Juan, or If Don Juan Were a Woman (1973), directed by her ex-husband Roger Vadim.
Bardot has always expressed her concern for animal abuse and her interest in animal rights, and upon her retirement from the big screen, she decided to pursue her activism as a full-time job. She used her international fame to promote her animal rights activism, and she received extensive media attention. In the years to come, she’s spoken publicly about the issue, donated money for the cause and supported animal-rights organization in different ways. Today, at 85, she’s still a prominent figure in this battle.
