Not Everything Is Made In The USA
Why do people think English is an American language? Some might think it’s because Americans can’t help but make everything about themselves. I mean, have you ever heard an American say “tom-ah-to” instead of “tom-ay-to”? Or how about “math” instead of “maths”? It’s like they think they invented the English language or something. It’s not like the founding fathers came from an English-speaking country or anything, right?
But in all seriousness, the reason why some may think English is an American language is because American English has developed its own unique quirks and characteristics. For example, Americans tend to use different vocabulary and slang words than their British counterparts, who inherited the language from Germanic groups known as the Saxons, Jutes, and Angles that settled in the area in the 5th century CE.
