The Drama Over Dates
Ah, the United States of America, the land of the free and home of the brave. So free and independent in fact, that there are a few things that the US does that other countries just don’t understand, like the obsession with bacon, inconsistent use of the metric system, and our insistence on being the only country in the world using the mm/dd/yyyy date format.
One Redditor caught us red-handed with our use of “fourth of July” for Independence day, but does that really count? I can recall instances in which I’ve spoken the date before the month, but when writing, I almost always put the month before the date. Do you use your intuition made of stars and stripes to decide which format to use, or do you follow hard rules?
