What Else Is It For?
The history of ambulances dates back to ancient times when injured or sick people were transported to medical facilities on makeshift stretchers or in horse-drawn carriages. Modern ambulances emerged in the early 1800s, when a group of physicians in Paris, France began using horse-drawn carriages fitted with medical equipment to transport patients to the hospital. This marked the beginning of the ambulance as we know it today.
It is quite literally a medical taxi meant to take you to the hospital. Unfortunately, it is exorbitantly expensive to dial 911 to hitch a ride to the emergency room. Americans spend an average of $1,200 on a single ambulance bill, so it’s no wonder many order an Uber instead (though we don’t recommend it).
