The Columbia Space Shuttle, 2003
This photo was taken a few weeks before the tragic event that came to be known as the Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster. These were the seven astronauts on the Columbia Space Shuttle, who went on a 16-day mission in 2003. As the space shuttle re-entered the atmosphere, the space shuttle disintegrated and the seven crew members didn’t survive the accident.
This was the last photograph of the crew before they boarded the shuttle. It was later discovered that NASA knew about the potential danger of the mission, but never informed the team, since by the time it was discovered, there was nothing they could do to fix it.
