An iconic landmark
Today, the New York City skyline is covered with skyscrapers and it almost seems weird to think that a few decades ago, it looked completely different. That’s why the Empire State Building – one of the first skyscrapers that grazed New York City’s skyline – is an important historical monument. This photo shows the Empire State Building, completed in 1931.
It is still considered a popular tourist attraction in the Big Apple, but back then, it was one of the only tourist attractions. People would visit the big city only to see the 102 story-tall building. For almost 40 years after its completion, the Empire State Building was the tallest structure in the world.
