The Struggles that Covid Has Highlighted for Parents

October 17, 2021 by Veronica Phillips

There are several struggles that parents have to deal with during the pandemic. One of the largest aspects is being able to take care of their children for long periods of time. The pandemic has not only prevented mothers from working, but it has also prohibited them from being able to take care of their children.

There are also issues with large companies and how they prohibit parents from going out at certain times if their child is ill. This causes a problem mainly for mothers who cannot take care of themselves and their children for more than an hour or two.

During the pandemic, parents are struggling to find care for their children. These types of conversations have not only become common place in American households, but also throughout several other affluent countries.

Work and Family Life

Many parents have a schedule that is set in which they can work and take care of their children. However, this schedule has been broken due to the pandemic as many families now have to make special arrangements with each other during times where one person or multiple members of the family are ill.

This leads to a struggle as both mothers and fathers try and find a way to take care of their family and also make time for work.

During the pandemic, parents are struggling to find childcare that is reasonable. Many mothers have been unable to go to work as they do not have anyone who can watch their children. This leads to both fathers and mothers having stress throughout their days as they try and make arrangements for their children.

Societal Expectations and Work

There are also struggles that come with society’s expectations and working. With society expecting mothers to stay home and take care of their children, and then expecting them to work forty hours a week, many parents find themselves struggling for time for both work and family.

This leads to several issues as parents try to play catch up during the part of the day that their children are in school. This also creates an issue where parents do not have time to spend with their children after work, especially if it is during one of their children’s bedtimes.

School Closings and Weekend Events

There is also an issue with school closings and weekend events that parents have to deal with during the pandemic. Many parents are unable to attend weekend events, such as sporting activities, due to their children being sick. This creates a struggle for these families as they fear they will be disconnected from other families in their community.

In conclusion, the pandemic has created many changes in everyday life. For parents who have young children, it may have uprooted their entire schedule, causing chaos as they tried to create a new routine. For parents of older children, the pandemic may have caused issues with keeping their older kids home when the virus was spreading heavily in their area.

Whatever your struggles or were, there’s no doubt that every parent felt the pain during the height of the pandemic.
