Despite his YouTube videos’ best efforts to portray him as a Robin Hood figure who freely distributes his wealth to the less fortunate, this is not the case exactly. As it turns out, MrBeast’s mom appeared in a YouTube video where he revealed the real story behind the brand deals that fund the handouts he gives away to boost his viewership.

He doesn’t hand over all of his money, but he also isn’t breaking the bank for his philanthropy. In the clip, he implores his mother to cash a $100,000 check, warning her that if she doesn’t, the video won’t go viral. She asks him rhetorically if he’s using her for views, and MrBeast says, “Yes, but you get money, so we’re both happy.”
