If you work in a place that opens and closes to the general public, you usually don’t want to be there when it’s closed because those are very likely your hours off, so when your boss calls you in on a day they won’t be there and refuses to pay you for it, you have to take things into your own hands or takeout box.
Technically, our Twitter user was committing theft by taking company property without permission, but the company was also committing theft by requiring him to work off the clock, so who was in the wrong here? The person who took compensation for their time, or the restaurant who needed their ice rotated?
