No More Anime
Being a fan automatically makes you part of a community, but what happens when that community you should be able to bond over your interests with ends up being the reason you eventually hate it? Anime fans have grappled with this problem, citing weeaboos, or weebs, as a reason for being embarrassed to admit they like Japanese cartoons.
Weebs are non-Japanese people who are utterly obsessed with anime and anything they think is related to Japanese culture. You might remember seeing them Naruto run around the schoolyard shouting in broken Japanese. They don’t represent the whole anime fanbase, yet they’re the defining image to those outside the community, which rubs the non-weebs the wrong way and has them hiding their fandom or giving it up altogether.
