Which Is Starboard Again?
Throughout this piece, we’re going to talk about the numerous mistakes James Cameron and the production team made before releasing Titanic. However, we feel that it makes sense to demonstrate that James put in a ton of effort to nail the details. One instance is when a crewmember tells the helmsman to turn the ship “starboard.”
Why did the helmsmen turn the wheel left then? Because back then, “starboard” meant to direct the ship in that direction. You’d have to turn the rudder left (port) to make the ship go starboard (right). It was one of the confusing things that sailors eventually changed as time went on.
