Loofahs
Loofah sponges are a popular bath accessory, although they are not necessarily recommended by dermatologists (partly for the obvious reason that people don’t change them often enough, and they could get ripe with bacteria). While we enjoy scrubbing our bodies with them, most people don’t know what these sponges are made of.
Loofah (also spelled luffa) – what loofah sponges are made of – is a type of tropical fruit from the cucumber family. It resembles a cucumber in shape, color and taste, and is a common ingredient in the Vietnamese cuisine. The loofah is most commonly found in India, China and Vietnam.
