As children, we don’t always understand the subtleties hidden in TV shows. We’ve already seen that the beloved cartoon Spongebob Squarepants contains a lot of inside jokes that kids fail to understand (they’re probably meant for the entertainment of the parents watching with their kids).

Another example for these jokes are Spongebob’s parents. If Spongebob is a sponge, it only makes sense that his parents are sponges as well – only, since they are old, they are dried-out sponges. However, as Twitter user Tiffany Ray points out, as children, most of us thought they looked a lot like chocolate chip cookies.
