Today’s Trends That Will Leave Us Cringing In 20 Years

September 18, 2012 by Jade Parker

You want to be cool, right? Of course, you do! That’s why you pay close attention to what’s trending. Or maybe you’re not worried about what other people think, but you saw that weird thing everyone is doing on social media, and now you can’t help but join the herd and try it out for yourself, even if it’s just to satisfy your curiosity. Trends come and go in the blink of an eye. Some slip through the cracks in our memory only for us to forget they ever happened, while others burn their image into our brains and live rent-free for years. Today we’re looking at the trends of 2022 that have Reddit convinced they’ll be cringing at what was popular this year when they check their Facebook memories in another twenty years — unless Facebook turns out to be one of those trends.

Smartphones have revolutionized our lives with all the convenience they provide. We can instantly communicate with our friends and family anywhere in the world, send memes to our friends who have a case of the sads, balance our checkbooks, binge-watch our favorite series, order dinner for delivery, or type up an article like this one.

While the average person’s eyes are glued to their smartphone for 3 hours and 15 minutes a day, others wish we’d put them down and pick up a book. Digital readers argue that phones aren’t dumbing us down because you can poke through book pages on ebook apps, but there will always be people who would rather crack open a real book and feel the paper between their fingers.
