Sometimes even big companies like Google get things wrong. While there are many Google apps that a lot of us use on a daily basis including Maps, Drive, Docs, Calendar, and Gmail, other ventures were not as popular. Their first social networking site was Orkut and after that bombed, they released Google Plus.

They were so sure that Google Plus would be a befitting competitor to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and the likes. In fact, even the author of this article believed that almost everyone would be “+1 ing” by 2012. As you know, nothing of that sort happened and thanks to low usage and lack of consumer engagement, Google Plus was shut down in 2019.
