Shane and Sia Barbi
A pair of identical twin sisters from California known as the “Barbi Twins,” Shane and Sia Barbi rose to popularity in the 1990s. When they were seven, they posed for a Sears catalogue and got their start in modelling. As a result of this, they began modelling in the fashion and pin-up genres in order to make a living. When a billboard advertising the twins appeared on Sunset Boulevard in 1989, their fame skyrocketed. When Hugh Hefner saw the billboard, he was immediately captivated to it because it was so visually appealing. The girls were a sight to behold on the cover of Playboy magazine in 1991. For the ladies, this was just the beginning of a long and fruitful career as calendar models, as they would go on to appear on a slew more covers.
As a result of their success, the girls have been able to better themselves. When they created a health and fitness book, they included a self-help section for people who were dealing with an eating issue as well. In order to sustain their weight loss, the girls themselves had struggled for years with bulimia, forcing them to work out for ten hours a day, go on crash diets, and use laxatives excessively. They followed that up with a second book in which they offered advice on how to live a healthy and active life while also respecting the environment and animals. Their whole book revenue was donated to animal welfare organisations as a way of saying thank you. This pair of animal rights activists has appeared in a number of documentaries on the subject.
