A Hotspot for Tourists
Many historians (or wannabe historians) can rattle off a list of facts related to the fabled USS Midway. It took nearly 1-1/2 years to construct, and while it never saw active combat during WWII, it saw plenty of action during the Cold War.
In April 1992, the historic ship was decommissioned. It has since been based in San Diego, where it welcomes the numerous people that come to see the ship on a daily basis. By 2010, over 5 million tourists have gone to see the USS Midway in all of its majesty. To us, the sheer size of this craft is pretty scary.
