The Secret Of NIMH
You would think a Disney-styled PG-rated movie featuring cute little farm rodents would be appropriate for children of all ages without question. However, the 80s had a habit of spawning “family-friendly” movies that had us begging our parents to turn on our nightlights after they booked us an appointment with a therapist.
The Secret of NIMH had a dark and captivating story that culminated in a showdown between good and evil like every other animated movie, but the violence was more graphic with scenes of animal testing and bloody sword fights. The character design was also so intense at some points that even good characters like The Great Owl got a bad rep.
