Fruit Has Never Been So Scary
Roald Dahl is the author of some of the most critically-acclaimed children’s books of all time. He’s also responsible for a healthy chunk of the strangely scary movies mentioned in this list. The relatively benign titles of his stories like James and the Giant Peach incite curiosity without cluing us into the horrors ahead, leaving us surprised by how deeply dark Dahl can get.
A magical giant peach seems great on the outside until you realize the inside is infested with creepy-crawlies and venturing inside turns you into a weird caricature. The Razor-sharp torpedo sharks and skeleton pirates were too intense for those of us who thought this would be a cute movie about fruit, and the rest of us walked away with a confusing crush on animated insects.
