Why Can’t We Be Friends?
Disney’s adaptation of Daniel P. Mannix’s novel The Fox and the Hound gave us a serious case of the sads despite their efforts to lighten up the original story. That’s right. The Disney version is squeaky clean compared to its literary counterpart that killed off the main characters after putting them through the emotional wringer.
The Fox and the Hound broke our hearts with its dark tale of two best friends whose friendship was crushed under societal pressure that dictated they were born to be enemies because of their places in the hierarchy. If the idea of being separated from your best friend for eternity doesn’t get the waterworks flowing, we don’t know what will.
