Give Up Your Seat Now, Reap Benefits Later
For some reason, airlines are allowed to overbook flights. We’ve seen all sorts of drama unfold when people are forced to give their seats up to someone else because the airline made a “mistake.” However, if you’re feeling kindhearted, or if you’re not in a rush to fly, don’t make a scene. Just get out of your seat with a smile and wait for the next flight.
The more peacefully you give up your seat, the more benefits you can reap from the airline. For instance, some airlines will upgrade your seat to a higher class if you’re cooperative. Others will give you free food and drink. Worst-case scenario, if you’re forced to wait until the next day to fly, the airline might even comp your hotel room.
