The Pirate Pupil
The ethics of pirating copyrighted material are hotly debated. Some feel it’s a victimless crime to steal from wealthy corporations and individuals. In contrast, others defend the rights to intellectual property and the effect it has on the people working in those companies. Software companies lose billions every year due to illegal downloads.
Nonetheless, it’s a crime, and u/anonymous_potato’s classmate got caught, did their time, and walked out with a buff bod. Other Redditors joked that the pirate was probably walked away for redistributing only a handful of copies of the once prohibitively expensive photoshop. So, who is the real criminal here? The guy who was probably helping a few fellow college classmates or the big corp charging ridiculous amounts for their software?
