Freedom of Speech
People in the United States sometimes mention the First Amendment as protection and backup for speaking about controversial subjects. They may even incite others to action with their words under the thought that freedom of speech allows them to say whatever they want.
In fact, the amendment protects citizens from recourse by the government, but they can still be held accountable for their words. People who hurt others by inciting or shaming are open to critique and may face consequences. Remember to think before you speak, especially if it could potentially hurt someone else.
