Mysterious Name
There are some unusual town names in this state, especially when compared to the rest of the country. Booger, Ding Dong, “Hot Coffee,” “Chicken,” “Bat Cave,” or even “Monkey’s Eyebrow” are all possible names for certain locations. Asking around among the locals might even get you the scoop on the origin of the name “Bat Cave” for one particular town.
On the other hand, nobody has ever offered an explanation as to why a town in Alaska was given the name “Unalaska,” which seems to have been chosen at random. In spite of the town’s relatively small population of 4,000 people, nearly all of them take great pride in being able to say that they are native Alaskans.
