Georgia – Future Secretary’s Portrait
Georgia had the support of many people in its early days when it became the state it is today. One of these people was Howell Cobb. This photograph was shot before he was elected Governor and US Treasury Secretary in 1844.
He was also the representative of the State at the time of the portrait. For five terms, Cobb served as Treasury Secretary and for two years as Governor. However, as he was one of the prominent founding members of the Confederation, he ultimately went down in history on the wrong side.
