North Dakota – Iron Bear Chief
Iron Bear, the Chief of Rees, was the head of the Arikara clan, back in the 1860s, what is today known as the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. In this 1868 photo, he poses by himself, two years before the reserve was set up in the state of North Dakota.

The clan had been shaped right, harking back to the fifteenth century, with Arikara families being known for having a few dogs per household. In fact, a few families claimed nearly 40 to 50 dogs that would regularly help them while hunting.
