Wisconsin – A Missionary
When he was photographed in 1840, B.R Wilson was a methodist missionary to Liberia. At the time, with the hope of entering the lead mining industry, Wisconsin saw many individuals migrating to the state. Wisconsin had been the Badger State by the beginning of the 1840s, with half of the lead used in the US being produced there.

The cold weather, particularly on the sides of the hills, was one of the greatest reasons that contributed to the increasing success of lead mining in the state.
