Johnny Cash Vs. The Grand Ole Opry
The Grand Ole Opry banned Johnny Cash from performing there, making him one of the few artists to be formally excluded. This occurred when the singer smashed his microphone on stage while performing there in 1965 and shattered the floor lights.
This was done again in Walk The Line, this time with Joaquin Phoenix, who didn’t make it up. Cash was really drunk when he performed on the Grand Ole Opry; they wouldn’t have any of it. They ended the ban against Cash at last.
