Tim McGraw Vs. Curb Records
When country star Kenny Chesney signed with Columbia Records in 2003, he was one of the label’s top artists. However, when he released his album, Emotional Traffic, they sued him for breach of contract since it coincided with a restrictive clause that required him to spread his releases by 18 months.
McGraw, on the other hand, sued because he had to wait for Curb to release seven different greatest hits compilations before releasing new material, putting him in a position of “involuntary servitude.” Following legal deadlock, a court ruled that McGraw is entitled to record elsewhere.
