Freddie became one of the many people sickened by AIDS during the 1980s epidemic, which claimed countless lives around the world.
Freddie Mercury was an infected man who had to fight for his life as AIDS spread throughout the world. He kept his health condition a secret from fans, concentrating on music instead. Closer to his death, he decided to talk about the virus and advocate for greater awareness of the epidemic. Here he is pictured shortly before dying of AIDS in 1991.
