Ways to Make Time for Yourself as a Working Mom

April 15, 2021 by Kristen Reed

Being a working mom makes it harder to find time for yourself. You’re’ already juggling so many things! You need to make time for the kids, your partner, household chores, and everything else, so how in the world will it be possible to make time for self-care?

We’re here to tell you that it is possible to be a working mom and find time for yourself. We’re going to lay down the tips and tricks that most working moms use to ensure that they’re always pulling from a mostly full cup.

Prioritize Sleep

If you can’t manage time for anything else, place sleep at the top of your priority list as part of the time set aside for yourself. You’ll need to get a good 8 hours of sleep, at least, each night. This will help your brain rejuvenate from the busy day you’ve had so that you wake up feeling refreshed.

Revisit Your Work Schedule

You may be putting in overtime at work and it’s not particularly helpful for your mental health. While we understand you need to keep finances in order, make sure your work schedule isn’t adding more stress. Consider revisiting your work schedule to see if it’s aligned with your goals as an individual.

Learn to Say NO

This is a tip that we can’t stress enough! Most moms have a difficult time saying no to people who ask for help or family members who got used to you doing everything. Embrace the power of saying no if it will interfere with your mission to make more time for yourself. This is a must for every working mom!

Be Realistic

As a working mom, you may have placed unrealistic expectations on yourself. Stop comparing yourself with other working moms who you think are doing everything! Remember social media is a highlight of someone’s day. No working mom can do everything in a day. Be realistic with your goals!

Outsource Tasks

As your kids get older there will be more things they can help with around the home. Don’t be afraid to place more responsibility on your kids’ shoulders. Having daily chores and tasks that help offset your time involved with household chores will instill good work ethic and teamwork skills in your kids.

Stop Surfing the Internet

When you’re home from work give yourself a little time to catch up on the latest news or social media updates from friends and then walk away from the internet. People everywhere tend to spend countless hours mindlessly surfing the internet when they could be using that time for self-care.

These are just a few tips and tricks to help you make time for yourself as a working mom. Sit down to develop a realistic plan on how you’ll start making time for yourself and don’t give any excuses. Make this time a priority in your life and watch how your life slowly becomes less stressful.
