Do you have the Monday blues? Maybe the Tuesdays too? Are you counting how many sleeps you have left before Friday evening releases you from the clutches of all the other icky weekdays? Don’t worry; we’re here with a pick-me-up. The weekend is coming, so let’s fasten our seatbelts for a trip down memory lane to revisit the many ways we used to spend our long yearned days off, as well as look at how differently we spend them now. While some things never change, there have been some major shifts in what we do with our Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. A love of nostalgia has also created the demand for comebacks of our old favorite pastimes, allowing us to experience all the good feels of our favorite decades as they were back then, sometimes in new and exciting ways. So put a record on, feed your Tamagotchi, and let’s dive into the weekend!
Let Me Just Scan Your Blockbuster Card
The bell just rang. School’s out. You’ve got your bus pass to ride home with your friend, where their mom will pack you into the station wagon to head over to Blockbuster to grab that movie you’ve been dying to see again since it was in theaters six whole months ago. Don’t forget to bring your Pokémon Snap cartridge to print out those sweet Mew shots!
These days, there’s only one Blockbuster left, which is now an Airbnb. Movie rental shops have gone nearly extinct with the introduction of Netflix and other streaming services. Instead of spending an hour browsing the shelves, hoping there’s a copy available, you’ll likely skim through Netflix, picking a movie just as you’ve finished the last bite of food you meant to eat with your show.
