If you had internet access in the 90s, there’s a high chance you spent some serious weekend time in AOL chatrooms spamming {s drops in rainbow fonts with your username that had way too many x’s and underscores in it. You also spent time making sure your AIM away messages were the perfect cringey mix of sad and funny.
The old AOL and Yahoo chatrooms we used to love have passed away. They’ve been replaced with today’s social media and apps like Discord, but one thing that will never change is the presence of bots and catfish wherever online messaging exists. Ask them to hold a sign with your name in their kitchen while doing a headstand to verify their identity.
