#33: Wrap It Up
“What’s so special about this photo?” you might ask. “It’s just a piece of salmon in a plastic container,” you might think. You might not believe us when we say this, but this piece of salmon is wrapped in plastic. If you stare good and hard at this picture, you’ll notice that this fish is tightly wrapped.

This kind of packaging is quite common in Europe, but not as much in the U.S. It’s called vacuum packing, and it’s a method of preserving food in an airless environment. We’ve heard about this method before but never realized everything—including seasoned fish — could be stored this way.
