Winter Break Activities for Families

October 11, 2020 by MamaBee

Winter may be a season of hibernation but it’s also a great time to enjoy activities with your kids. Whether you’re a winter fan or not, these winter break activities for families will surely give you something fun to do.

Family bonding is an important aspect of raising a family. Maintaining a close bond with your children will help deter them from making bad decisions, rebelling during the teenage years, and have a more optimistic outlook on the future. Each of these winter break activities for families will help strengthen your family bond as you enjoy fun and laughter together.

Stargazing

Gather up those warm blankets and get all bundled up because you’re going to head outside to watch the stars. Start a little campfire in the backyard fire pit and enjoy staring at the stars. You can download a constellation app and try to find each constellation as you enjoy some quality time around the campfire stargazing with your family.

Indoor Swimming

Swimming is a fun activity and an excellent way to get exercise in. Why not call around to see if any community indoor swimming pools are open to enjoy an afternoon of swimming. Some indoor waterparks and swimming pools remain open during the winter season to provide families with the fun that comes with water playtime.

Get Crafty

Arts and crafts are a fun winter break activity for families to enjoy. Have each family member choose an arts and crafts project from Pinterest. Pinterest is the best source for arts and crafts for all ages. Gather the supplies and complete one craft per day for every family member. Use these crafts as holiday gifts, or unique home décor options!

Go Sliding

If you live where the snow falls during the winter season, then gather up those sleds, get bundled up in your best outdoor gear, and go sliding. If you don’t have a good sliding area in your backyard, look around your community for the best sliding spots. You may have to pay to go to a local ski resort for sledding, but some areas have free locations for family sledding excursions.

Play Board Games

Dust off those board games and play some of your old school favorites with the family during winter break. Board games can teach teamwork, leadership, and promote family bonding, especially among siblings. If you don’t have any board games, then now is the time to go online and purchase some of the best family board games out there.

Snowball Fight

Snowball fights are so much fun for families to enjoy together during winter break. If you don’t live in an area that gets snow, you can purchase ‘fake snowballs’ online to have a pretend snowball fight in the backyard together during the winter season. Snowball fights can be quite extensive, you may set up an obstacle course complete with areas for family members to hide behind while they toss snowballs out.

These are just a few of our winter break activities for families to enjoy. When the weather gets too cold outside to enjoy your everyday summer activities, you just have to adapt and be creative. These ideas will surely help inspire a strong family bond as you start to place focus on quality time together during your kids’ winter break vacation.
