It is a horrifying experience to have even the remotest suspicion that a child may be missing. You go through a series of terrifying scenarios in your head, and eventually you come to the conclusion that you will never see the child again. You shout their name, you tell other people, and you cling to the vain hope that they are simply concealing themselves in some cunning location.
This babysitter was concerned that the child she was watching had returned to the busy intersection where she had seen him earlier to pick up a rock. It turned out that all he was doing was chasing after a butterfly in the tomato patch.
